How the Retreat is Structured

Structure That Protects the Work

Verity Mountain is a private residential therapeutic setting supporting individuals whose primary difficulties relate to addiction, substance use, or compulsive behaviours, often accompanied by psychological patterns linked to burnout, trauma, and prolonged responsibility.

The structure exists for one reason:

To create the conditions in which meaningful, focused work can take place safely, discreetly, and within clear professional boundaries.

Everything here is intentional.
Nothing exists for entertainment or performance.

A Considered Admission

Structure begins before anyone arrives.

All admissions follow a confidential review process designed to determine whether Verity Mountain is the right fit.

This conversation considers personal history, current circumstances, and what someone is hoping to address, alongside establishing clear expectations around boundaries, responsibility, and participation.

It also makes clear what the setting can support, and where independent medical or specialist input may be required.

Admission is selective by design.

Not every enquiry results in an offer of residency.

This protects both the individual and the integrity of the retreat.

Daily Rhythm

Life at Verity Mountain follows a predictable, contained daily rhythm.
Structure exists to support regulation — not control.

Each day includes:

  • ongoing individual sessions
  • structured group processes held in small numbers
  • shared meals taken at a consistent time
  • designated periods for rest, reflection, and integration
  • time spent in the surrounding natural landscape
Participation is expected, but performance is not.

The pace and depth of disclosure are held with care and professional judgement.

Consistency — not intensity — is what allows deeper change to unfold.

Professional Standards

All work at Verity Mountain is delivered by therapists with UK training and professional grounding, operating in line with recognised UK standards and their respective codes of conduct.

The team operates within a clear and consistent structure, supported by independent supervision and defined safeguarding responsibilities.

This keeps the environment consistent and well-contained, particularly as emotional depth increases.

Approaches are drawn from established practice and applied with care, consistency, and ethical responsibility.

Nothing here is experimental, performative, or driven by trends.

Medical Support

Verity Mountain is a private residential setting, not a medical or psychiatric facility.

We do not provide medical assessment, detoxification, prescribing, or any form of clinical care.

Where medical input is needed before or during a stay, this is coordinated discreetly through independent local providers.

Any clinical decisions, including those relating to detoxification, medication, or fitness to engage with the programme, sit entirely with those providers.

This separation is deliberate.

It allows the therapeutic work at Verity Mountain to remain focused, while medical needs are met by professionals qualified to address them.

Medical support remains secondary to the therapeutic process — it does not define or dominate it.

Boundaries & Responsibility

Clear boundaries are an essential condition of safety.

From the outset, residents are supported to understand their role and responsibility within the therapeutic work, including expectations around participation, conduct, confidentiality, and privacy. The limits of what the retreat can safely hold are made clear, creating psychological safety rather than restriction.

Responsibility is not removed here.
It is gradually returned.

Residents are active participants in their own process — never passive.

A Final Note

The structure at Verity Mountain is not designed to impress.

It is designed to hold.

When emotion intensifies, familiar patterns begin to loosen, or long-avoided truth emerges, the structure remains steady.

This reliability allows the work to go deep
— without losing clarity, dignity, or humanity.
